Bill Border graduated from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. He had a successful career in New York City as an illustrator. He spent many summers as a licensed Main Guide along the Allagash River wilderness on the East Coast. While on the East Coast, ocean scenes and sea birds filled his canvases.
When he moved to Boulder, Colorado, he completed a BA at the University of Colorado. Now he works in his studio in Boulder County where he draws and paints the scenes and wildlife he often meets face-to-face in the foothills—including an occasional bear or mountain lion.
His body of work includes fine art paintings and numerous commissions for natural history interpretive illustrations that enhance local and national parks and zoos. He has exhibited and won awards throughout the US, notably in Colorado, California, and the Arts for the Parks Competition in Jackson Hole, WY. His painting, “Headwaters of the Colorado River,” was featured in a show at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. His awards include first place and top 10 in the Colorado Duck Stamp Competition and top recognition in the Federal Duck Stamp Competition.
